Unconfirmed reports of fugitive dictator Muammar Qaddafi's death surfaced Thursday shortly after his hometown of Sirte fell to Libyan fighters. Transitional National Council official Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters news agency that Qaddafi was wounded and taken into custody while fleeing Sirte in a convoy that NATO warplanes attacked.
