Best Apple Pie In Sacramento

When the weather starts to cool and the leaves begin to slowly change color, it's a sign that fall is right around the corner. Sacramento locals know it's also the signal for one of the most beloved times of the year -- apple season -- which means fresh-baked apple pie. Whether you are looking for the best spot to grab a quick slice or to find a place that does a unique take on the traditional apple pie, these five greater Sacramento-area eateries will have you covered.

Icing on the Cupcake
1121 Alhambra Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 736-3600

What is the best alternative to a slice of apple pie? Try an apple pie cupcake. Icing on the Cupcake has earned a sweet spot in the hearts of Sacramento residents with its extensive menu of cupcakes available year round. One of its best is mom's apple pie. It's a classic family recipe that features apples baked into a homemade apple cider filling and topped with a crumble and icing on the Cupcake's signature heart. Originally opened in 2007 in Rocklin, Icing on the Cupcake has grown to include four locations in the greater Sacramento area and features over 40 flavors of cupcakes (12-15 served daily).

Freeport Bakery
2966 Freeport Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 442-4256

Consistently voted as one of the best bakeries in Sacramento, it's no surprise that Freeport Bakery is a top choice to get fresh-baked apple pie. Owned by Marlene and Walter Goetzeler, Freeport Bakery has been serving the Sacramento area for over 25 years. While wedding and specialty cakes are the shining star, the Goetzelers have made their mark by serving some of the best baked goods in all of greater Sacramento.

Dave Pops
Oakpark Farmers Market
35th St. and 2nd Ave.

How about an apple pie popsicle? Dave Pops produces some truly unique popsicles that are available at different locations throughout Sacramento. He lists the current schedule on his website with regular stops at local farmers' markets. Through a process called duBle, developed by founder Dave Feldpausch, Dave Pops are like ice cream but do not utilize fats or dairy to achieve the ice cream-like texture. And the best part? They are low in calories and fat. Dave's apple pie oat crust contains 1/2 apple with a full serving of whole grain fiber to boot. How's that for an apple pie that won't leave you feeling like you cheated on your diet?
