Alleged Car Thief Busted At Mall After Crime Movie

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Police say a suspected thief who stole his boss' car was arrested after authorities discovered he was watching a movie at Arden Fair Mall.

Authorities were waiting for 29-year-old Kintachi Ramey as he exited a recent screening of "The Town," according to Arden Fair security.

Software that automatically scans parked vehicles' license plates flagged a silver sedan that had been stolen weeks ago from Folsom Lake Dodge, where Ramey is employed, and surveillance video showed Ramey and a female friend entering the movie theater to watch the crime thriller.

Security officer Steve Reed notified police and decided to keep an eye on the couple from inside the theater while authorities staked out the stolen vehicle.

"It's kind of funny, I was watching the movie and was thinking in about 20 minutes, 'You're going to be a part of that movie,'" Reed laughed.

As the couple walked out of theater, Reed followed closely and gave the signal to police.

"I called and said, 'Honey, I'm on my way out,'" Reed said.

Officers arrested Ramey for the alleged theft of the vehicle. Ramey has since bailed out of jail.

Arden Fair security says they've already recovered 41 stolen cars this year.
