Turlock homicide suspect arrested after victim hit in head with chain dies, police say
Police in Turlock have arrested a homicide suspect after a victim was fatally assaulted on Golden Gate Boulevard Tuesday, authorities said.
Police initially posted on social media about the incident at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, saying that officers were investigating an aggravated assault in the 100 block of South Golden State Boulevard and requesting that the public avoid the area.
Shortly after 3 p.m., Turlock police issued an update saying that the incident had been confirmed as a homicide involving one adult victim.
On Wednesday, police identified the victim as 54-year-old Donald Byoyodavid of Turlock, saying Byoyodavid was hit once in the head with a chain.
Investigators identified the suspect as 31-year-old Devin Tillery, who police said was located within hours and tried to run away before he was eventually arrested.
Tillery was booked into jail for murder, police said.
Police said they believed the assault was an isolated incident.
