Across The Top Project Closures Will Hit Westbound Interstate 80 Later This Month
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Caltrans has announced some significant closures on Interstate 80 over two weekends later this month for the Across The Top Project.
Both closures will affect the westbound lanes of Interstate 80.
The first set runs from 10 p.m. on Aug. 19 to 5 a.m. on Aug. 22. The highway will be down to just two lanes between Longview Drive and Winters Street that weekend, and the Longview Drive onramp and Winters Street offramp will be closed.
The second and more significant closures will happen the following weekend. From 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 to 5 a.m. on Aug. 29,
- The two local lanes of westbound Interstate 80 will be shutdown just west of Truxel Road
- This leaves just the one express lane open until the Sacramento River.
- There will be no access to West El Camino Avenue from Interstate 80 going westbound.
- Northbound and southbound Interstate 5 ramps that connect to westbound Interstate 80 will also be shut down.
None of the work is expected to close the eastbound lanes.
In short, if you're planning on driving westbound on Interstate 80 through Sacramento in the last two weekends of the month, bring patience, or find another way.
Caltrans expects to complete the long-awaited, $133 million Across The Top project by the fall.
