Shell plant explosion caused by ineffective safety controls, inexperienced engineer, report says
An explosion and fire at the Shell cracker plant in June 2025 that caused $95 million in damage was the result of a combination of poor safety controls and an inexperienced engineer, according to a report from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.
