Local Soldier Posthumously Awarded Medal Of Honor

A soldier from Lawrence County has been awarded the Medal of Honor more than 40 years after he died in combat. Army Specialist Leslie Sabo, Jr., was killed while protecting his fellow soldiers from an ambush in Cambodia during the Vietnam War.

Ellwood City Soldier Posthumously Awarded Medal Of Honor

Running out of ammo, badly wounded Army Specialist Leslie Sabo, Jr. died suppressing enemy fire, allowing a Med-Evac helicopter to lift off from a landing zone in Cambodia. Les Sabo was 22-years-old. It was Mother's Day, 1970.
