Water Main Break Closes All Montour Schools Early While Crews Are On The Scene

ROBINSON, Pa. (KDKA) - All Montour school buildings closed early after a water main break in front of the high school.

Allegheny County says the water main break, which happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday, was on Clever Road in front of the high school. Clever Road to Aiken Road Ext. was closed.

The county says Montour doesn't have water so it's planning on releasing students early.

There was emergency access to the school that was opened while students left.

According to Montour School District, all school buildings were forced to dismiss 30 minutes early.

Evening activities at the high school and elementary campuses were also canceled.

A water main break along Clever Road forced Montour High School and Elementary School to dismiss early. Some nearby homes also are without water. Robinson Township Police are here helping with the traffic backups. Crews hope to have the water restored in about a half hour. KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh

There were seven houses that were affected, but the damage is mainly on the road.

"We are going to do a temporary patch then do everything else tomorrow in the daylight," said Shawn Bryan of the Municipal Authority of Robinson.

Water service has since returned.

The cause could be a number of things, including old age.

Police advised residents to avoid the area while repairs were underway and school was letting out.

During rush hour traffic, Robinson Township Police said to expect back-ups.

"Traffic impact is going to be very heavy around rush hour," said Sgt. Noel Pilewski with the Robinson Township Police Department. "I would expect 45-minute delays to an hour at least. This is pretty heavily traveled."

The superintendent says school is expected to be back in session Wednesday morning. If anything changes, parents will be notified.
