Wash. Co. Man Charged In Wife's Shooting Death

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A Washington County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of his wife Tuesday night.

According to police, the shooting happened at a home in the 100-block of Victoria Drive in North Strabane Township around 8:30 p.m.

Louise Weis-Edmonds, 49, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police received several 911 calls from neighbors, who reported hearing shots being fired inside the home.

"The initial call was for the sound of a gunshot from that residence," North Strabane Township Police Sgt. Dave Richards said.

When police arrived, they found 50-year-old Scott Edmonds cradling his wife inside the home.

"He was holding the victim at the time when our officers arrived on scene. What he said there, I cannot disclose that," Sgt. Richards said.

Police said they quickly looked at Edmonds as their prime suspect and charged him with criminal homicide.

Edmonds is also facing a charge of tampering with evidence. Police said as they were searching for the weapon, they found the gun in a side pocket of a pool table.

The firearm was placed in evidence, along with several other items from inside the home. Police said the house did not appear to be in disarray and they were checking to see if there were any prior calls to the home.

Police could not provide information into a motive.
