Butler Co. Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

ZELIENOPLE (KDKA) – Police have made an arrest in a local bank robbery.

The robbery happened shortly after 2:15 p.m. at the Citizens Bank in the 100-block of Main Street in Zelienople.

The suspect, 36-year-old Matthew Chestnut, of Grove City, passed the teller a note demanding money.

A dye pack exploded as Chestnut got into his SUV.

A Jackson Township police officer pulled Chestnut over on Hartman Road, but as soon as the officer approached the SUV, Chestnut drove off.

The officer got Chestnut's license plate number and traced it to an address in Mercer County.

At about 4 p.m., he surrendered at his parent's house in Liberty Township to State police.

Chestnut was then taken back to Zelienople for processing. He's facing charges of robbery and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
