Skiers Hit The Slopes At Seven Springs

SOMERSET COUNTY (KDKA) -- At least 800 people hit the slopes at Seven Springs Mountain Resort Tuesday, a day after snow storms swept through the mountains.

More than a foot of snow fell at Seven Springs, allowing the resort to open one of its slopes.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," Anna Weltz, of Seven Springs, said. "How many people can say they skied at Seven Springs on April 24?"

People from across the area dropped their plans to seize the opportunity.

The previous record for spring time skiing at Seven Springs was set in 1996, when the slopes were open until April 14. This year, Seven Springs is the only resort on the east coast to reopen after the recent snow.

The fun won't last for long, though, as temperatures are expected to climb back into the 60s soon.
