Report: Pirates To Place Meek On DL
Pirates relief pitcher Evan Meek hasn't looked right all season. The reason for that is he might not be healthy and is heading to the disabled list.
In 2010, Meek was so dominant that he was named to the National League All-Star team. In 2011, he's struggled with control and isn't close to the pitcher he was last year.
Maybe it's because he's having problems with this shoulder.
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pirates plan on placing Meek on the 15-day DL to address a weakened shoulder.
In 11 appearances this season, Meek has a 5.62 ERA.
Kovacevic brings up the names of Daniel Moskos and Tim Wood as two players that could take Meek's spot on the roster.
Moskos would be interesting because he's the Pirates 1st round pick in 2007. This season at AAA Indianapolis, he has a 1.69 ERA, 7 K's and 1 wak in 8 appearances. Moskos would give Hurdle two lefty options out of the bullpen.
The ineffectiveness of Meek has been lessend by the job that RHP Chris Resop has done.
It continued last night as manager Clint Hurdle brought Resop on in the 8th inning and he struck out the side.
For the season, Resop has an 1.26 ERA in 12 games while striking out 16 batters in 14 innings.
Resop has been a great pickup by GM Neal Huntington, claiming him off waivers from Atlanta last season.

The Pirates have recalled left-handed pitcher Daniel Moskos from Triple-A Indianapolis and have placed right-handed pitcher Evan Meek on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to 4/27) due to right shoulder tendinitis.
Moskos, Pittsburgh's #1 pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, went 0-0 with one save and a 1.69 ERA (10.2ip/9h/3r/2er/1bb/7so) in eight games with Indy this season...He will be wearing uniform #57.
