ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The conversion of the old Northway Mall to The Block at Northway is making progress, and now there are some dates to put to the project.
The first mall in Pittsburgh is literally a shell of itself on one end while quickly coming into shape on the other.
"They've exceeded a lot of dates as far as turnovers go, so Nordstrom Rack is opening Aug. 26, which is earlier than they originally had wanted to open up," said Craig Polard, of Pinpoint Retail.
They're working hard to get the parking lot in shape for that opening, and the interior work on the store is well underway.
Work next door is advancing, too.
"The Container Store will open first on Oct. 8, and Saks will open probably a week after that, probably mid-October," Polard said.
The south end of the block is literally a skeleton, but there's a vision for multiple tenants.
"We've had more interest than we know what to do with," Polard said.
The developer is currently working with 25 potential tenants.
"As far as restaurants go; we're negotiating with several different restaurants from some of the best local restaurants to national chains," said Polard.
Part of the reason the block's developer, LRC, is slow in announcing new tenants is, with so much demand, they are trying to make sure The Block doesn't become a "more of the same" type center.
"Many of these tenants that you see along this project facing McKnight Road will be new to the market, they don't have a store in Pittsburgh yet," Polard says.
Also coming to the development now is a 100-space parking garage.
