Rains Bring Western Pa. Under Flash Flood Watch
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Periods of rain will continue to rule the day in western Pennsylvania.
Some of the rain will be heavy and the entire area is under a Flash Flood Watch through 7 a.m. Wednesday.
River stage projections have caused a closure of the Mon Parking Wharf and may affect the Tenth Street Bypass for Wednesday.
A general one to three inches of rain is expected across the region with many locations getting right around two inches.
According to KDKA Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, a cold front will move through Tuesday night and colder air will work in. So, after a high of 59 degrees Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will fall to about 36 degrees by morning and some wet snow will mix in with the rain.
A few flurries are likely Wednesday, but no accumulation is expected.
"We should count our blessings. If our one to three inches of rain all fell as snow, then, on average, a range of 10 to 30 inches of snow would be falling on western Pennsylvania," Bowman said.
According to the National Weather Service, a flood watch has been issued for the Monongahela River near Elizabeth from Wednesday night until Thursday afternoon.
At 9 a.m. Tuesday, the river was at 11 feet and minor flooding is possible. Flood stage is at 20 feet, which could be reached by Thursday morning.
