PWSA Apologizing For Late Sewer Bills, Offering Customers Payment Plans
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Technical issues have delayed sewer bills for thousands of people in the South Hills, and when the bills do arrive, some will find they owe a lot of money.
Now, the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority is offering an apology and a temporary solution.
If we're being honest, most of us don't want to know much about the byproducts of our community handled on the shores of the Allegheny River. The only reminder is that bill that comes to our mailboxes; that is, when they come.
For about 25,000 sewer-only Pittsburgh Water and Sewer customers, the bills have not been coming lately.
"The water provider switched to a different software product, and we switched to one they formerly had, so there was a problem getting data to sink up," says Brendan Schubert, of the PWSA.
Now they've figured out the communications issue, and Schubert says "the bills should come up in the next billing cycle."
"We're in September, so it should true up by Oct. 1," he says.
So, how much are we talking about?
"About $15 a month for an average home," says Schubert.
But some of the coming bills cover as much as six months.
So, to reduce the sticker shock, PWSA is sending out a letter apologizing for the issue.
They are also putting anyone owing $200 or less on a three-month payment plan, and anyone owing more than $200 on a six-month plan.
"People who are on a fixed income, that $15 is very valuable for them, and we just want to respect and recognize that all our customers have the same needs," says Schubert.
