Police Seek Suspect After Fatal Shooting In Moon Twp.

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person is dead following a shooting Wednesday evening in Moon Township.

Police say a gunman opened fire around 6:40 p.m. on 32-year-old Cameron Johnson while he was driving near Oak and Juniper Drives, near the Mooncrest housing complex.

According to Allegheny County Police, officers were in the area on an unrelated matter when they heard the gunshots and responded to the area.

Johnson's car ended up crashing into some trees. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

"Obviously, we're early in the investigation," said Lt. Andrew Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police. "At this point, we do believe this might be some type of domestic-related incident in which there's a new boyfriend and old boyfriend. We are not certain at this point."

Police have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Jesse Lee Jones. According to police, Jones was the new boyfriend of Johnson's ex-girlfriend.

Police say Jones just recently got out of a West Virginia state jail after serving nine years on a felony drug charge.

Police believe Johnson had just opened his car door and was about to get out to visit a woman at the Mooncrest housing area. It was at that time when Jones approached the car and fired at least five shots.

Police say a good portion of the confrontation was caught on surveillance video.

Jones is described as being a white male standing about 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He is originally from West Virginia, but is known to frequent the Mooncrest complex and West End. Police believe he may be trying to return to West Virginia.

Police say they recovered a weapon and some clothing at the scene. They believe the suspect was alone and got away on foot.

An autopsy on the victim has been set for Thursday.

Anyone who sees Jones is being asked to call 911 immediately. Anyone with other information about his whereabouts can call the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at (412)-473-1300.
