STEUBENVILLE (KDKA/AP) – The victim of a rape case involving two Steubenville High School football players is now reportedly receiving death threats.
Police say two 16-year-old girls are charged with threatening the girl. They say one of the suspected girls was arrested and the other turned herself in.
Police say one of the girls tweeted a threat to the victim, and they later learned of another threat from a second teen.
In a tweet to the victim, Police say one of the teens wrote, "you ripped my family apart, you made my cousin cry , so when I see you (expletive), it's gone be a homicide."
Steubenville High School students Trent Mays and Ma'Lik Richmond were found guilty Sunday of attacking a 16-year-old West Virginia girl after an alcohol-fueled party last August.
Mays and Richmond were charged with digitally penetrating the girl, first in the back seat of a moving car after a party on Aug. 11, and then in the basement of a house.
According to the Steubenville sheriff, police are now investigating death threats being made against the girl.
Police are also investigating if at least one of the threats was made by somebody with a connection to Richmond.
The judge sentenced Mays and Richmond to at least one year in juvenile jail and said both can be held until they're 21. Mays, who's 17, was sentenced to an additional year in jail on a charge of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, to be served after his rape sentence is completed.
