PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A memorial tribute is being planned for Thursday for a Port Authority Police dog killed in the line of duty.
Police say K-9 Officer Aren was trying to take down a suspect in Wilkinsburg on Sunday when he was stabbed in the mouth.
The memorial service will be held at the Allegheny County Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial on the city's North Shore.
A procession of police officers from several departments will begin shortly before 11 a.m.
The public is invited to attend the memorial service.
According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office, Aren died as the result of blood loss.
He was not wearing a vest at the time, but K-9 trainers say it would not have saved him.
