MOUNT OLIVER (KDKA) - Allegheny County Homicide Unit Detectives said a suspect is dead after an attempted home invasion in Mount Oliver.
Lt. Andrew Schurman said the man who resides in the home on Sherman Avenue shot and killed the intruder just after 5 a.m. Thursday.
Detectives said the intruder had a weapon "similar to an assault rifle" and they think he entered through a second-story window.
The homeowner, who was taken away for police questioning, said he believed the intruder had a weapon and shot him with his personal handgun.
No charges have been filed.
The intruder has been identified as 33 year-old Daniel Johnson.
"The homeowner was the one who called 911 and was very cooperative with investigators," said Lt. Schurman. "The victim, the burglar, the actor, was pronounced dead at the scene"
Irene McGuire, a neighbor, said she was shocked she didn't hear any of the commotion.
"Usually, we would hear it if there was a bullet or something we would hear it inside. We didn't hear anything," said McGuire. "A lot of people say 'aren't you afraid living here?' and I say 'no.' I'm really not because my neighbors are good neighbors and the police are excellent. They do an excellent job and they're here in minutes so I'm shocked this would happen right in front of my house."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
