STRIP DISTRICT (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a man was found dead in the Strip District Thursday morning.

According to officials, the body was found along the river trail between the 16th Street and Veterans bridges.

Officers were initially called to the scene around 6:42 a.m.

River Rescue crews also searched along the shoreline for evidence.

"They are looking at the shoreline to see if there's any additional evidence we can gather from the scene," Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released, but he is believed ti be in his 30's or early 40's.

Police will be working with the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

"Right now it is a suspicious death, but we do have homicide out here investigating, so once we learn more from the medical examiner, we will be able to determine," Schaffer said. "We will be talking to them to see if we can gain anymore insight as to what they discovered when they did find the body here on the trail."

No other information has been released.
