Man Leads Police On Chase, Ditches Fanny Pack That Had Heroin & His ID

ELIZABETH, Pa. (KDKA) – The Elizabeth Borough Police arrested a man on drug charges, among others, after a police chase Friday night.
After attempting to stop a white BMW for traffic violations, the vehicle led officers on a low-speed pursuit, getting onto SR 51. The suspect, identified as Ahmad Craig of Clairton, was seen throwing what is believed to be a gun into the Monongahela River before throwing other items from the vehicle.
Officers recovered three bricks, or approximately 150 bags, of heroin, which were thrown from the car during the chase.
Craig was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and was charged with fleeing and eluding, possession with intent to deliver, possession and traffic violations.
On Saturday morning, officers responded to call of a suspicious bag in the Town Hill area of Elizabeth Borough.
"A neighbor came out and called 911 reporting they found a fanny pack with a large amount of what they believed to be narcotics in the fanny pack," Elizabeth Police Sgt. Garrett Kimmell said.
Officers did find a fanny pack in a yard at Fifth Street and Bayard containing 30 bricks, or approximately 1,500 bags, of heroin along with Craig's driver's license and bank card.
Divers searched the Monongahela River near the Elizabeth Bridge all day Saturday, hoping to find the gun they believed Craig threw from the car.
"During the pursuit, we saw an item come out the vehicle and after reviewing dash cam video from my patrol car, we were able to see what we believe to be a gun being thrown from the bridge into the river," Kimmell said.
"If it was a gun thrown into the river, we can recover it and everybody is safe and we don't have a random gun just laying around in the river," Elizabeth Borough Police Chief Tim Butler said.
Crews used metal detectors and something similar to radar, but were unable to find a gun. The search could resume Monday.
