Missing Father & Son Found Dead Along Allegheny River

LOWER BURRELL (KDKA) – A father and son, who were reported missing after fishing along the Allegheny River in Westmoreland County, have been found dead.

It was not the outcome family and friends wanted. When the fire alarm sounded throughout the community early this morning, they expected the worst.

Two boats from fire departments in Pioneer and Eureka marked the area where the bodies of 62-year-old Stephen Sieminski and his 30-year-old son, Justin, were found in the river.

They were found less than a half mile from where divers were searching Monday night.

"This morning, a resident from the Tarentum side through binoculars saw one of the bodies in the water and they called. We found the first one, shortly thereafter the second victim was found," Lower Burrell Police Chief Tim Weitzel said.

The two left home in Natrona Heights around 9 p.m. Sunday to go fishing. They were never seen alive again.

Police found their red Chevy Blazer parked near a popular fishing spot near Lowe and Edgecliff Roads in Lower Burrell.

The father and son had been fishing from the shoreline.

"We found gear down along the river and the family was dressed in fishing gear, so I don't know what happened. Obviously, something bad happened. I don't know if one was in distress and the other went to save him," Chief Weitzel said.

The Coast Guard has been asked to limit river traffic during this investigation.

Meanwhile, Chief Weitzel said his department along with Westmoreland County detectives and the coroner's office are heading the investigation.
