Man Accused Of Physically Abusing Baby To Stand Trial
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- A Westmoreland County man will stand trial for allegedly starving and physically abusing his young son.
Timothy McAtee, 25, didn't speak as he left his preliminary hearing, but previously told investigators he had an anger problem and would squeeze his 8-month-old son Michael when he was angry and carry the baby around by his legs.
The baby had been living in an apartment on Main Street in Youngstown with his father and mother when he was taken to Children's Hospital last month with two broken ribs and a broken leg.
The assistant district attorney handling the case says a doctor from Children's Hospital is prepared to testify to those injuries as well as the fact the child had been starved – weighing just 15 pounds – at both his four and eight month check-ups.
McAtee admitted to detectives that he had been cutting the child's formula in half for weeks because it was expensive and the child went through it too quickly
The child's mother has not been charged in the case.
McAtee is facing aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and related charges.
He's being held in the Westmoreland County Jail unable to post $50,000 straight cash bond.
