Local Students Watch Pens Practice At CONSOL Energy Center

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Eight-thousand kids piled onto school buses early Tuesday morning to attend the Penguins' practice at the CONSOL Energy Center.

While it was only a practice, you would've never known from listening to the kids.

"Well, I haven't been here before so I like it because it's really big and it's better than the other one," Eonna Page, a student at Pittsburgh Classical Academy, said.

Kids learned about teamwork and physical well-being too.

"You get to see all these fun people start jumping up and screaming, dancing, hollering, seeing the Pens' practice," Christian Seelhorst, a student at Shaler Area Elementary School, said.

The Penguins hope the learning goes beyond telling the difference between icing and a two-line pass. It's the fourth-straight year they held this event.

"I think it's just that idea of seeing this place, experiencing something new, for the first time perhaps --maybe for last time -- and taking that with them," Kevin Keenan, a teacher at Shaler Elementary, said. "I think it's outstanding."
