Local Soldiers Return Home From Afghanistan

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An emotional reunion at Pittsburgh International Airport as soldiers returned home from Afghanistan just in time for Thanksgiving.

It's been nine months since their loved ones have seen them.

"I'm just thrilled! I can't wait to see him," said Jodie Kegarise, from New Castle, whose son is 1st Lt. Ty Kegarise.

Finally the moment arrived. Six soldiers stepped off the plane to cheers and hugs and tears from waiting family members.

"Breathtaking and a sigh of relief," is how Master Sgt. Evan Melendez described the moments.

Beth Talko, from Cresson, was emotional when asked about her husband's return. She said she can't even begin to describe how she felt, except that, "It's great!"

Five of the six are military police officers. The sixth is a communications specialist.

Most, if not all of them, are not only home for Thanksgiving, but they get to stay home for good.
