PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's a jam-packed schedule for this year's EQT Three Rivers Regatta.
The biggest change may be the dates. The Regatta will be the first weekend in August this year with hopes of good weather and better river conditions.
Last year, the fun was kept on land, with river activities cancelled because of poor river conditions. This year, the Regatta will be held Aug. 5th-7th.
"We had to cancel the river activities last year so it's really gonna help the river conditions, traditionally, are much better in August," said Darcy Kucenic with Peony Entertainment.
The slogan "You Gotta Regatta" is back, and so are the popular USF1 powerboats.
"These are the really fast, really loud boats. They were also supposed to be here last year. So they rearranged their schedule so they could be in Pittsburgh. It's one of their favorite places," Kucenic said.
The Wheel of Lights is back by popular demand.
"We had over 7,000 people ride that last year. It was a big hit and that will be back," Kucenic said.
The change in dates also means fireworks on the 4th of July and on Aug. 7 to wrap up the Regatta.
A tribute to Prince will take place during the Regatta.
There will also be live music, including on a barge tied to the North Shore. The Alcosan Three Rivers Proud Boat Parade will invite recreational boaters to decorate their boat in black and gold---with prizes awarded. And the Anything That Floats race will be Saturday Aug. 6.
During a press conference Thursday, a painting was displayed by artist Johno Prascak-- highlighting fireworks in the night sky--- 500 prints have been made and proceeds will go back to the Regatta.
"I was quite honored. It was a big challenge but it came through and they seem to love it," Prascak said
Kucenic joined the "KDKA Morning News" and told Larry Richert and John Shumway the Regatta was moved to August, in part because of more favorable river conditions.
"After what happened last year, canceling the river activities due to such poor river conditions that was definitely a big factor [in moving the Regatta] for us."
