HAMPTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Matt Scoletti pumps the iron, as wife Stephanie keeps count.
That was the formula Friday night into early Saturday morning at the Anytime Fitness Center in Glenshaw. The Hampton Township fitness fan set a speed record for lifting... a million pounds.
"I was just trying to think of the next 5,000 pounds, and not try to go for the whole million all at one time," the weightlifter says.
He says he worked on four different machines, taking a break every 200,000 reps.
"One of the machines is a shoulder press, and my shoulders hurt pretty bad about halfway through. And I knew I couldn't do that machine anymore," Matt said.
Matt is no stranger to endurance, having competed recently in "American Ninja Warrior."
Stephanie Scoletti kept her husband going, as the clock ticked its way toward 2 a.m.
"I not only was the cheerleader for Matt," she says, "but I also had to be the photographer and the videographer, and be the motivator; although, I don't really think he needed a motivator until the last thousand."
He finished the million pound marathon in less than nine hours, shaving an hour and a half from the previous record.
