DILLNER (AP) — The state Department of Environmental Protection says it will likely take until Tuesday to cap two Greene County gas wells involved in a fatal explosion.
Department spokesman Kelly Burch says crews hired by Chevron are rigging equipment Saturday in preparation for capping one well in Dunkard Township the following day.
Burch says workers will re-rig equipment Monday at the second well, which is expected to be capped Tuesday.
Burch is the state agency's executive director for oil and gas operations.
A well explosion on Feb. 11 killed a 27-year-old worker for Houston-based Cameron International.
The resulting fire burned for five days and damaged a second well before being extinguished.
The explosion's cause has yet to be determined.
