Get Marty: Eagle Scout Working To Restore 200-Year-Old Penn Hills Cemetery

PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- An Eagle Scout candidate trying to save a 200-year-old cemetery reached out to KDKA-TV and Get Marty.

"I drive by it every day. It's a burden just to see it going downhill," says Adam Hollis.

The 17-year-old Eagle Scout candidate picked a Penn Hills cemetery he drives past on the way to school each day.

"I just want to fix it up," says Hollis.

Turns out the Old German Cemetery needs a new fence, and has a number of busted grave stones and grave markers. All of it needs replaced or repaired.

"We want to create a look as if everything's perfect," says John Diogardi from Rome Monuments.

Diogardi has agreed to work on a number of monuments for free.

Meantime, Get Marty also got State Rep. Tony Deluca involved. Deluca helped Hollis get legal clearance to take on the project.

David Bash's grandparents are buried at the site.

"My family means a lot to me. I'm so happy this young man is doing this work," says Bash.

Hollis says he hopes to have a new fence up and all of the repairs done at the cemetery within the next few months.
