Friends Mourn Death Of Gannon University Student

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Investigators in Erie are continuing to look into the death of a Gannon University student over the weekend.

Abbie Brynda, 21, of Butler County, was found dead in an alley near campus after a night of partying with friends.

She was rushed to a local hospital, where she died hours later of hypothermia. No foul play is suspected.

Toxicology tests are pending and the results won't be available for several weeks.

Police are now trying to determine how Brynda ended up in the alley.

Brynda was a junior nursing major. She was also active in Greek life as a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.

A prayer service for Brynda was held Sunday on campus.

Brynda was a 2011 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.

For her senior project, she raised nearly $7,000 to help purchase a service dog for a family friend with a rare genetic disorder.

A school spokesperson released a statement to KDKA:

"All of us here at Seneca Valley were profoundly and deeply saddened to hear of Abbie Brynda's passing. We will remember her as a young and vibrant woman who was selfless in her actions."

There was an outpouring of love and support for Brynda's family on social media as well.

A friend named Carleen wrote:

"What an impact this girl had on everyone [and] now she is gone forever. Loved every moment we had together. Rest easy beautiful."
