Man Dies After Downtown Pittsburgh Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man is dead after he was shot in downtown Pittsburgh in broad daylight.
The shooting happened at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Barkers Place Thursday afternoon.
Police say responding officers found the man in an alley with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers with life-saving gauze administered first aid until paramedics arrived. EMS then took the man to the hospital in critical condition.
The man, identified as 30-year-old Terrance Lamar Coates, was later pronounced dead, police said.
Police later announced that two people were arrested and charged in connection to the shooting. Taylor Wible is charged with criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license, while 18-year-old Ela Aydin is charged with hindering apprehension.
People were nearby at the Allegheny Overlook Pop-Up Park enjoying the afternoon when they heard gunshots go off.
"I'd say between five and ten maybe. It's just going off, or sounded like fireworks," said Amy Shinsky.
Shinsky thought the fireworks sound was coming from the baseball game across the river.
"I heard a bunch of bangs and gunshots. I thought it originally was fireworks because of the Pirates game, but it was in the wrong direction," said Shinsky.
Shinsky said she hasn't been downtown in a good while due to the pandemic, so she decided to come to Allegheny Overlook Pop-Up Park to work and enjoy the afternoon.
"It was just weird in broad daylight in downtown. Just here trying to work," said Shinsky.
A couple KDKA's Amy Wadas spoke to came to the city from Lancaster to have some fun when they saw police cars go by.
"We were going down and saw cop cars and ambulances driving by. Didn't really think anything of it but said, 'that's crazy, wonder what that is,'" said Mark Rabchek. "You hear about a shooting when you're playing cornhole and enjoying music, and it's like right there."
A heavy police presence was on the scene after the shooting. An alleyway was taped off and police could be seen placing multiple evidence markers.
