CHURCHILL (KDKA) - A man is dead due to a fire in Churchill.

Dispatch confirms to KDKA that a man in his 70s died in a residential fire on Graham Boulevard. The medical examiner identified him as Munang Nanji.

Just after 12:30 p.m. crews were called to the scene of the two-alarm fire with reports of someone trapped inside.

Less than an hour into fighting this blaze, more than a dozen units from throughout the area were called in to help.

At one point, the smoke and heat were so intense, that a decision had to be made whether it was safe for crews to continue to fight the blaze.

"We had heavy fire from the very beginning. We had crews trying to push in but they were unable to push in due to heavy fire and smoke in the house. We had to back out and we had to go defensive," fire chief Ralph Zatline said.

The fire started in the back of the house, according to officials at the scene.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
