Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Vehicle In North Strabane Twp.

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - One person is dead after they were struck by a vehicle in North Strabane Township.

Officials say that 59-year-old Matthew Smith was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Friends and family became concerned when he did not show up for work at the City Mission in Washington.

Police say that the accident occurred at approximately 12:25 a.m. Sunday morning in the northbound lanes of Washinton Road near the intersection of Route 19 and Weavertown Road close to the Sheetz Store.

A friend of Smith, Nichole Sickles says that she does not understand why someone would hit him and leave the scene.

"It's ashame that someone hit him and drove off," said Sickles. "I know that somebody out there knows something."

Authorities say that the corner was called to the scene.

The North Strabane Police Department is investigating the incident and has not released if charges will be filed.
