Man Arrested For Fatal Westmoreland Co. Hit-And-Run

EAST HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police have arrested the driver who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run in East Huntingdon Township on Saturday.

It happened along Ruffsdale Alverton Road, just south of SR-31, around 2:30 p.m.

According to state police, 29-year-old Matthew Ramsay, of New Stanton, struck 49-year-old Joseph Cummins, of Mt. Pleasant, who was running along the road with his dog.

Ramsay fled the scene after he hit Cummins.

Cummins was sent to Frick Hospital for emergency assistance, then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and rushed into surgery, where he died from his injuries.

"It's a terrible thing to happen to a family right before the holiday," neighbor Russel Sleasman said. "I'm sure that their Christmas is never gonna be the same. It's always gonna be a bad memory. It is very sad."

Cummins leaves behind a wife and three children.

"Great kids, every interaction we've had with them has been positive, juts a very good family, just sad to see it it happen,"  Sleasman said.

Ramsay was found following the state police's investigation. He is in the Westmoreland County Prison, facing multiple charges.

State police say Cummins' dog was not hurt.
