Duquesne's McConnell Honored

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Duquesne freshman guard T.J. McConnell continues to show that the stage of D-1 basketball isn't too big for him. The Atlantic-10 conference has named McConnell the Rookie of the Week.

McConnell (Chartiers Valley H.S.) led Duquesne in scoring twice by averaging 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. The freshman guard shot .625 for the week and for the season is averaging 12.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.3 steals. Even more impressive is that McConnell is shooting .603 overall from the field.

The last Duquesne Dukes player to win league rookie of the week honors was Eric Evans back in 2008-09.

Duquesne (4-4) is next in action Saturday night when they host IUPUI (5-6). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
