Driver Unharmed During Wild Ride On North Side
NORTHVIEW HEIGHTS (KDKA)- A driver was lucky to escape unharmed after going on a wild ride on the North Side.
According to police, the incident happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday near Lamar Street.
Officials said the 52-year-old man was trying to park his car in the Northview Heights Housing Community when he suffered a diabetic emergency and became unconscious.
With the man knocked out behind the wheel, the car drove through this grassy area, plowed through a fence and then down a neighbor's driveway before the car rolled down the hill and hit the tree.
"I really don't like trees. I like to cut them down, but that one will stay. From now on, that one will stay," the neighbor said.
One of houses down below is owned by a woman who says she just bought it. She's thankful the house was spared damage.
"We just closed on it a little bit ago and my insurance man is coming out tomorrow. So, yeah, I'm real happy," she said.
The driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Despite the accident, it's believed that he was mostly uninjured and was taken to the hospital for treatment for his diabetes.
Because it was a medical emergency that caused the crash, at this time, it is believed that police are not filing any charges.
