Driver Crashes Into Building On Sixth Street Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A car crashed into a building downtown.

This happened on Sixth Street near Fort Duquesne Boulevard at about 8 p.m.

The female driver, who was alone in her Volkswagen Passat, was exiting the Pittsburgh Parking Authority garage.

She went through a closed gate, bolted across Sixth Street, and slammed into the former location of Bally's.

The building is now owned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

"I thought it was a scene from the Batman movie or something to tell you the truth," James Rack, an eyewitness, said.

Had it happened earlier in the evening, the street would have been full of people headed to the Pirates game.

Ryan Smith, who was eating at a nearby restaurant, said it was a miracle no one was seriously injured.

The woman was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. Her blood alcohol level will also be tested.

Pittsburgh Police say the woman told them her foot got stuck on the gas pedal. Her name has not been released.
