PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The NHL trade deadline is March 5.
The Penguins have been mentioned in reports as being interested in Vancouver forward Ryan Kesler. Darren Dreger of TSN told Bob Pompeani that it would be a tough trade for the Pens to complete.
"That's going to be a real difficult trade to make," Dreger said. "He's so important to the Vancouver Canucks from a cap perspective, and we always talk about that. You have to in today's NHL when you've got term on your contract. He's a valuable player in Vancouver and that's why he's also intriguing to any team, let alone a cap-strapped team like the Penguins might be."
Dreger said that the Pens will probably be looking for depth at forward, and a former 20-goal scorer for Edmonton came to mind.
"It's hard to upgrade the talent up front in Pittsburgh obviously. But I do think that (Ray) Shero will look for depth. For whatever reason, Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers seems to stick in my mind, and I think he would be a good fit," Dreger said.
