District Attorney: "We Have Identified Possible Suspects" In Wilkinsburg Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Following the shootings earlier this month in Wilkinsburg, which claimed the lives of five people and an unborn child, police have been working around the clock to identify and arrest suspects.

Now, more than one week after the shooting on Franklin Avenue, investigators believe they have identified the possible suspects.

KDKA's Marty Griffin talked with Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala who said there is a lot of evidence to go over, and they are waiting for a lot of evidence to come back from the crime lab.

That being said, the district attorney is cautiously optimistic about the case and possible arrests.

Zappala tells KDKA they have looked at a number of people and say, "We have identified possible suspects in the shooting."

He also says, "We will make arrests in this case."

However, Zappala said, "We don't have a timetable at this point."

Zappala says, "[Allegheny] County Police have made substantial progress" in the case.

KDKA is told from outside sources that police have a pretty good handle on one of the suspects. The other suspect, KDKA is told by sources is "in the wind," and believed to be out of state.

KDKA is also told there is strong belief the shooting was drug-related.

Sources confirm that police have run four warrants at homes in the area, in Homewood in particular.

KDKA's Marty Griffin checked and the search warrants are sealed at this time. Zappala says there is no imminent arrest in the case at this time.
