Coroner: Man Killed Estranged Wife, Then Himself
EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot and killed his estranged wife outside her western Pennsylvania home and then took his own life.
The Cambria County coroner said 57-year-old Marlene Krens left work Thursday morning to go to her Jackson Township home for lunch. Coroner Jeffrey Lees said that seconds after she arrived, 58-year-old Donald Krens pulled into the driveway and confronted her.
Officials said a county 911 dispatcher got a call shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday from a man who said he had just killed his wife and was going to kill himself. Police dispatched to the home found both people dead in the driveway. Lees ruled the woman's death a homicide and the man's death a suicide.
Chief Phil Vaught of the township police department said surveillance video from cameras at the home confirmed that Donald Krens shot his wife and then himself. Vaught said he believes the man "probably had that on his mind when he showed up there."
Vaught said the two had owned Direct Value Outlet Inc., a company that operated discount stores in Mundys Corner and Vinco. The company went out of business in 2018.
