Blood Drive Held For Child Recovering From Organ Transplant

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An Ellwood City girl continues to recover after receiving a rare multi-organ transplant at Children's Hospital.

People in the community are sending more than just love and support to the young girl and her family.

It certainly has been a rough road for Kyree Beachem. Last month, the 8-year-old received a multi-organ transplant. She's been in Children's Hospital ever since, recovering. She's faced several challenges, but overall, she's doing well.

Friends and family have surrounded Kyree with love, support and prayer, and now the community is coming together in another way. Over the weekend, family friends held a blood drive.

"Every little bit counts, and until you're in their shoes, you can't even imagine the journey that they have to take," said family friend Meagan Myers.

More than 120 people registered to roll up their sleeves and donate.

"The world needs to be a little bit more helpful, and it's just something like taking an hour out of your day to potentially save three other lives," Myers said. "Why not?"

An incredible show of support and unity from the community.

"We've had to increase the number of appointments several times, and it's all because Kyree is such an inspiration to not just each person individually, but the community as a whole," Myers said.

Kyree's journey is being documented on social media sites like Facebook. Thousands of people have been following her story.

"Just seeing the impact she has on so many people is tremendous," Myers said.
