Police say the 60-year-old victim heard a knock at her door, and as she went to answer it, she was shot multiple times. Someone else inside the home then returned fire.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police say she is expected to survive her injuries.

But the front of her home is riddled with bullet holes.

No other injuries were reported.

Police believe the shooting is the result of an ongoing feud between families in Clairton.

"It's quite possible someone inside the house may have returned fire at the people outside of the house shooting in," Allegheny County Police Inspector Andrew Schurman said.

A neighbor, who does not want to be identified, said he heard more than a dozen shots and called 911. He said the victim is a nice woman who he saw often in the warmer months playing outside with her grandchildren.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS, or 1-833-255-8477.

This case marks the the second time in a week someone has been shot after answering a knock on the door.

Wilbert Barber, 58, of Rankin, was shot and killed when he opened his door on Monday. There have been no arrests in the case.
