Chris "Block" Gordon, popular TV personality and drag racer, killed in "devastating" crash at Ohio track

Chris "Block" Gordon, a popular TV personality and drag racer, was killed in a crash at a raceway in Ohio, authorities said. He was 55 years old. 

The well-known racer and Discovery TV star was killed in a "devastating" crash on Saturday in South Webster, KD Motorsports Park said in a Facebook post, which called him a "legend of our sport" and a "great friend." The post also called the crash a "terrible incident." 

"Please keep his wife and family in your thoughts and prayers as we all try to mourn the loss of this good man," KD Motorsports Park said. 

The post went on to say that staff and medical professionals responded immediately after the crash. They "exhausted all of their efforts at the time of the accident," according to the post. CBS affiliate WOWK said the call came in around 8 p.m. on Saturday, and Gordon was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No other details about the crash were released. 

"Please for all involved let's keep speculation and uninformed opinions to a minimum as we pray for his family," KD Motorsports Park's Facebook post closed with. "RIP 'Race in Peace' my friend you will be missed by so many."

Hours before the event, Gordon posted about attending the race on his Facebook page, which now has countless tributes from loved ones and fans. 

"It's race day at the Hill Drivers meeting @ 6:15," Gordon posted. "Let's get busy."

Gordon appeared on Discovery's "Street Outlaws: Fastest in America." The show features eight teams competing for $100,000 in a "contest unlike any other." Gordon was on Team South Carolina, where he was from. The show dubbed him the "South Carolina Street King."
