Child endangerment tip leads to arrest of several sex offenders
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A police tip of a child endangerment suspect has led to the arrest of several Pittsburgh-area sex offenders.
Detectives from the Allegheny County Sherrif's Office received information Monday night that Joseph Neidermeyer, 34, who had been wanted since early October by Ohio Township police on charges of endangering the welfare of children and simple assault, was residing in a motel on Route 60.
Neidermeyer was not at the motel but was found later at a business on Route 60.
Neidermeyer was with another man identified as Lee Chew, a registered sex offender, who had recently left the Renewal Center without permission and was the subject of a detainer issued by state parole, per a department press release.
Neidermeyer and Chew were subsequently arrested. After being taken by police, officers discovered that two additional sex offenders who had fled from Renewal Center and had state parole detainers were also at the aforementioned motel on Route 60.
Detectives then found Amber Avery and Anthony Ditton. All were taken into custody without incident, and Chew, Avery and Ditton were charged with failure to register under Megan's Law.
Detectives also arrested Chad Coyne Monday night in Glassport. Coyne also is a registered sex offender, but his arrest was not connected to those arrested at the Route 60 motel. Coyne was taken into custody for violating probation.
All five individuals were transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
