Cause Of Overnight Fire In North Versailles Under Investigation

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- A stubborn fire at a former business in North Versailles kept firefighters busy overnight.

Crews were called to the 400-block of East Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard around 12:45 a.m. for reports of heavy smoke at the building that once housed Chuck's Hubcaps.

Authorities say they believe the fire may have started in the back of the building.

Multiple fire companies were called to the scene to help bring the blaze under control.

"When we first initially opened the door, we had heavy fire in the doorway there and a lot of smoke," said Chief Jeff McNeill, of the North Versailles Fire Department. "The police were doing a patrol, and they came upon all the smoke in the area and they pinned it down to the building."

According to officials, the fire did some damage to the remaining inventory that was left inside.

Allegheny County arson investigators were on scene overnight probing the cause, but there's no word yet on what sparked the fire.
