Car Slams Into Front Door Of Home In Polish Hill

POLISH HILL (KDKA)- Pittsburgh Police arrested a man after a car slammed into a home overnight.

The car struck the front door of a home in the 3000 block of Brereton Street in the Polish Hill neighborhood.

The front door was knocked out by the impact of the crash. A load-bearing wall in the home was also damaged.

"To tell you the truth, I thought a cabinet had fallen," said Brandon Tuschak, who lives in the home. "My brother was screaming, then I thought maybe something was breaking into the house. By the time I got out and saw the car, it kind of clicked."

The man driving the car was taken away from the scene in handcuffs. He has since been identified as Lorenzo Owens, 32, of Swissvale. Owens, who does not have a valid driver's license, is facing a list of charges including, DUI, recklessly endangering another person and careless driving.

Tuschak said Owens tried to drive away from the scene.

"He was trying to gas it to back the car out and started tearing up the yard. The thing that drives me nuts, I could hear the doorbell ringing everything he hit it. So, it was a constant doorbell ring as I was standing in the house," he said.

A building inspector was dispatched to the scene to check out the structural integrity of the house. Tuschak said inspectors have to check out the overhang of the house before removing the car, because a load-bearing wall was damaged.

No one inside the house was injured.
