Canonsburg Father Arrested In Machete Attack

CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- Authorities say a Washington County man is facing charges after his son had to be hospitalized for wounds he suffered from what a witness called a "machete knife."

Investigators report that Robert Gregory, of Canonsburg, is facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Authorities say police were called to the 200-block of Vine Street in Canonsburg around 10:45 p.m. Thursday for a "report of a man stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon."

"Sometime later, about one, 1:20 in the morning, he entered a bar, a local neighborhood bar, he was obviously suspicious," Canonsburg Police Detective Alex Coghill said. "A couple of the occupants, a couple of the patrons there heard what happened and saw the blood on him and notified police."

According to the criminal complaint, Gregory's wife told investigators that he pulled out the weapon and "began to strike their son," identified as Lorenzo Gregory.

The suspect got away but was later taken into custody during a traffic stop just outside the police station.

Police say Lorenzo Gregory was taken to Canonsburg Hospital by his girlfriend and later transported by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.

His injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Robert Gregory is in jail on charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. His bond is set at $100,000.
