Pennsylvania State Police investigating after man's body found on state game lands in Westmoreland County
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a man's body was found on Saturday in Westmoreland County.
State police received a 911 call from a local hunter who had discovered a body near a parking lot on state game lands in Loyalhanna Township.
The victim was later identified as Robert Friend, 64, state police said via social media. Friend had no permanent residence, but had ties to the Greensburg area.
Police have not said how Friend died, but they are calling his death suspicious.
"It is suspicious to say the least," said Trooper Steve Limani.
Limani told KDKA-TV that Friend had no history of arrest with law enforcement and that his manner of death and how he ended up in the woods likely involved foul play.
"It appears something happened that caused Mr. Friend to be in that location, and it doesn't seem like he was just walking there and fell over from a heart attack," Limani said.
Pennsylvania State Police are asking for the public's help and are offering a $2,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.
"If somebody was involved in this and they want to come forward, there is no reason why you can't," said Limani. "Maybe something happened, or there was a mistake or an accident, or maybe some alcohol was involved, or maybe something happened that fogged your memory or whatever, and you want to come back, and you want to sit down and talk to the Kiski station. You would only make it worse by not coming forward," Trooper Limani said.
If anyone has any information about Robert Friend and his whereabouts on Friday, they are asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Troop A barracks at 724-697-5780, PSP Tips toll-free at 1-800-472-8477, or online at this link.
