Beaver County GOP Committee Secretary Resigns Over Racist Social Media Posts

BEAVER, Pa. (KDKA) -- The secretary of the Republican Committee in Beaver County has resigned after several controversial social media posts surfaced online.
Former secretary Carla Maloney is calling her own Facebook posts "distasteful, inappropriate and insensitive."
The BeaverCountian.com published an investigative report into the matter earlier this week.
According to the website, Maloney allegedly wrote posts last year reacting to the ongoing controversy of some NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. She allegedly referred to those as "baboons" and "overpaid, ignorant blacks."
Daniel Camp, chair of the Beaver County Commissioners, spoke to KDKA-TV: "The remarks that were made were repulsive.
Camp says the posts are just surfacing publicly now, and as of Friday night, Maloney had stepped down. Her resignation letter was posted on The Beaver County Republican Committee's Facebook page.
Maloney submitted her resignation Friday, and apologized.
In a statement published to the website, she said in part: "I know my posts and comments were disrespectful to not only the people that I love, but families across the country. I am eager to make this situation right with the Beaver County Republican Committee and the public at large."
"I was raised to treat everyone equally," Camp said. "This is something that can't be tolerated."
Camp's feelings were echoed in downtown Beaver where people were out and about getting a start on their holiday weekend.
"I'm not in favor of the players taking a knee, but I'm not in favor of people talking about other people that way, she shouldn't have done that," said one resident.
Word began to spread regionally and nationally that Maloney admitted to her words and apologized, saying she also now wanted to make things right in Beaver County and the public at large.
"Unfortunately, it's something bad that's happening in our neck of the woods, and we want to make sure that the community and western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania knows that Beaver County, this isn't how Beaver County works," said Camp.
The chair of the Beaver County Commissioners plans on calling for the resignation of the chair of the county's Republican Committee saying he knew about Maloney's Facebook posts before she was appointed to office.
The committee issued a statement that reads in part:
"The views expressed in her posts are abhorrent and have no place in reasonable public discourse. We denounce these comments in the strongest terms possible."
