Beaver County Fire Kills 1

WEST MAYFIELD (KDKA) – One woman was killed in an overnight fire in Beaver County.

According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out in the 3600-block of Jean Street in West Mayfield around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A passerby saw smoke coming from the house and called 911. It took companies from four fire stations about an hour to douse the flames.

According to police, the victim has been identified as 75-year-old Norma Finney.

Finney was on oxygen and used a chairlift to safely get in and out of her house. However, police said what they suspect she did Wednesday night was anything but safe.

Finney and her pet Chihuahua were found dead in the living room of the home, which is where the fire is believed to have started.

"She was nice. She lived here with her husband, Dick. He died [she's] been alone since then. Her and her puppy," Diane Young said.

Police suspect Finney was smoking Wednesday night, which possibly caused the fire.

Police said Finney's dog was right at her side attempting to protect her until the end.
